Q: What is the Seeds Of Change “Share The Good” Grant Program?

R: At Seeds of Change, we are passionate about growing deliciously good food, from the seed, to ingredients, to your plate. We are growers and care about the way food is grown and the people who grow it and we think it’s important to help people know where their food comes from and how it is grown.

We believe that goodness comes from the ground up and want to help make a difference and Share the Good by supporting sustainable community-based gardening & farming programs through our 1% fund. Namely, we plan to donate 1% of our net sales to benefit these programs and this grant program is one step in our plan to do this.

To support our mission, Seeds of Change is seeking partners to Share the Good with the community through their gardening or farming programs.

Eligible organization may participate by telling us how your organization Shares the Good with its community. Seeds of Change will select twelve applications to receive a $10,000 grant toward creating or enhancing your community gardening or farming program.

Q: What organizations are eligible to apply?

R: To participate, your organization must meet both of the following criteria:

1. U.S. private for-profit or public or private not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organizations that focus on at least one of the following areas:

  • Community-based farming or gardening
  • Public School Gardens
  • Food & nutrition education
  • Farming and agriculture education
  • Sustainable farming

2. Organizations that are linked to a specific town, township, watershed, county, or other delineated area, and are able to engage such community for participation and support.

Q: How do I enter the Seeds Of Change “Share The Good” Grant Program?

R: To enter, eligible organizations need to tell us how their organization currently “Shares the Good” in their community. Please follow the instructions provided on the online application, and be sure to answer each question thoughtfully, clearly and concisely. Online applications are available at SeedsOfChangeFoods.com/ShareTheGood. Complete the form and click “Submit;” or you can enter by mailing in a paper application to Seeds of Change, Attn: “Share the Good” Grant Program, P.O. Box 4908, Rancho Dominguez, CA 90220.

Q: When is the deadline for submitting applications to the Seeds Of Change “Share The Good” Grant Program?

R: Eligible organizations may apply starting at 12:00 pm ET on October 24 through 12:00 pm ET on November 30. Any application electronically submitted or postmarked with a date that is after the end of the 12:00 pm ET deadline on November 30 will not be accepted. Further, all mail applications must be received by December 7, 2012 to be considered.

Q: Can I nominate an organization for the Seeds Of Change “Share The Good” Grant Program?

R: Yes, individuals and community members may nominate an organization. A nomination alone however does not qualify as an entry into the grant program. Organizations that have received nominations but do not officially submit an application for the grant program will not be considered for a grant. If you submit a nomination for an organization, be sure to let them know so they get their entry in on time!

Applicants can receive multiple online nominations through SeedsOfChangeFoods.com/ShareTheGood from supporters to share the message of what the organization is doing to Share the Good. The number of unique nominations an organization receives will be considered by the judges during the review process.

Q: May I submit multiple entries?

R: No. Each eligible organization may only submit one application. Further, only one organization may be included in each application. Therefore, collaborations from multiple organizations will not be considered.

An eligible organization may receive multiple nominations that will be considered during the judging process. Please note that a nomination does not count as an actual entry into the grant program. The nominated organization must still submit an application to be considered.

Q: What does Seeds Of Change mean when they say “Share the Good”

R: At Seeds of Change, we are passionate about growing deliciously good food, from the seed, to ingredients, to your plate. We are growers and care about the way food is grown and the people who grow it. We think it’s important to help people know where their food comes from and how it is grown. We define “Share the Good” as enhancing the environmental, economic, and social well-being of gardens, farms, farmers and communities.

Q: Who and how will the submissions be judged?

R: A panel of judges made up of Seeds of Change farmers, brand leaders and partners will evaluate the applications to select twelve organizations.

The judges’ review will be conducted in two parts. First, the judges will evaluate whether the applicants meet the Eligibility Criteria (defined in the Program Guidelines). Second, the judges will evaluate applications based on how the organization addresses the following: food education, community impact, need based, leadership and inspiration.

Q: When will the award recipients be announced?

R: The award recipients will be announced on or about December 15, 2012.

Q: How much is the grant for and when will the awarded organizations receive it?

R: Seeds of Change will award twelve individual grants, each for $10,000. All awards will be distributed by January 31, 2013.
